Learning sun salutations

Today I going to teach you Surya Namaskar or the Sun Salutations as it's more commonly known. It's a relatively simple sequence of yoga asanas (poses) which massages, detoxifies, oxygenates, stimulates almost every organ in the body and brings suppleness to the spine. It's a wonderful way to warm up and stretch or start the day!

191

Begin in mountain pose

193

On an inhale reach your arms up above your head, then push your pubic bone forward, tighten your buttocks and gently lean backward opening the chest

198

On an exhale, fold forward lifting the tale bone. If your hamstrings are tight bend at the  knees in order to keep the body in contact with legs

201

On an inhale step back your left leg

202

Then your right, into plank position

203

On an exhale slowly and with control lower your body towards the ground

204

Once down push into your hands and on an inhale sweep forward into cobra

205

Lift tailbone and on an exhale come into downward dog

206

This is a variation for people with tight hamstrings, keep heels off ground and knees slightly bent

207

On an inhale step forward your right leg, then you left

208

Slowly coming up on an exhale

209

Into standing forward bend, then mountain pose again.
193

On an inhale raise your hands up above you head, push your pubic bone forward into another back bend.

191

Exhale slowly back down into mountain pose. You can repeat this asana sequence 10-15 times as a warm up to your yoga practice.
