Silence in the middle of a city

IMG_5489

My friend took me to explore Parque de Cocó in Fortaleza. It was opened in 1989 and is conservation for the state of Ceará.

The name comes from the river which passes through "rio Cocó".  The river starts in Pacatuba where it is little more than a stream, further along it joins another small river called Gavião. It's only after it passes through Ancuri that it becomes Rio Cocó.

After a busy day in the city the two of us decided to get back to nature. The entrance to the park is off one of the busiest roads in the city but once you get a little way down the trail traffics sounds become distant.

The smell of "mangue" swamps replaces the smell of the city and you have the most amazing scenery to photograph. We met some cute little monkeys and even a random black cat along the way!
