Brazilian cable sessions

A few days and not much wind had everyone in Taiba itching for some action. Jessica Winkler, Nick Hall, Aymeric Martin, Dorian Meyet, Toni Zion and I decided that instead of complaining about the lack of wind, we'd find some "no wind" entertainment. Strapping our boards to the roof of the car we headed to the city, our destination, Colossal wake park.

We chose to ride the sunset open session, which if you manage to catch a quiet day is really great value for money and makes for a beautiful location to watch the sun go down. You almost forget that you are in the heart of the city as the sun shines down through the palm trees and you look out across the lagoon, if it wasn't for the skyscrapers off in the distance you could be anywhere!

Colosso has a good selection of obstacles to hit. Unfortunately the A-frame wasn't in the water this time, perhaps due to low water levels but there are two ramps and a long intimidating rail for those who are brave enough.

The cable is set at standard height so for me ariels were tricky but the boys managed easily. Nick and Dorian getting some nice clean landings, Aymeric landed a back mobe perfectly at first attempt which put the rest of us to shame and Toni Zion put his board in an early grave with the same trick. Ripped the bindings right off the board :(

There were a few wake-groms using the cable that evening too, and killing it on the water! Diego especially!

Colossal has grown a lot in the short time it has been open, more so the lakeside venue than the cable area but who's complaining. The chill-out area looks like somewhere you'd normally find down at South Beach, Miami more than Washington Soares, Fortaleza. Day beds, floating white curtains, funky house music and comfy sofas give for a chilled out  and chic vibe. You can now order a perfect kiwi caprioska and a wood fired pizza from one of the many silent gliding waiters when you finish you session, then sit back and watch fireflies and bats zip across the lake.

You don't have to be an expert to enjoy Colosso, they offer full instruction for beginners in both wake boarding and stand up paddle (SUP). Colossal now rents the space for private functions... Now thats my kind of place for a wedding venue!
