#sproutingjars

Have you always wanted to grow fresh healthy food but never had the space to do so, or you feel that perhaps you don't have the time to tend to a vegetable patch? Well I'm going to let you into a little secret, you can and you don't need space a lot or free time either!

I love sprouting beans!! They are delicious, nutrient packed and have an awesome crunchiness! Living in a tiny fishing village in north east Brazil makes shopping for whole foods difficult, in fact even in the city finding spouting beans is tricky. So I started looking into ways that I can still eat my favourite foods home grown. Sprouting beans is the easiest and fastest way I've found so far!

Its super easy and fast. Here is all you need to know to sprout some lentils:

What you need

1 x jar with lid or plastic tupperware box
1 x cup of lentils

Method

Soak the lentils in fresh water over over night, the longer the better. Well soaked lentils sprout faster.

Drain well then place in your chosen jar or box. Now, here is the secret when placing the lid DO NOT screw down tightly, you want to let air in to the jar to encourage the lentils to grow. Then place in the fridge.

Each day wash the lentils buy adding a little water to the jar and swirling it around. Drain and replace the jar in the fridge.

After a day or so they will start to sprout. It will take around 5-7 days from them to reach a good size but after 0.5cm they are great to eat!
